EVENT READY

Preparing for Crisis Management in High-Risk Areas

Before traveling or conducting business in potentially high-risk regions, it's crucial to ensure you're adequately prepared for any unforeseen events.

The SPS Kidnap, Ransom and Extortion 2024 Risk Map highlights countries with a high to extreme risk of an event occurring without proper pre-event security measures. If your operations fall within this zone, you need to be EVENT READY.

This five-step guide outlines the steps your organisation can take to ensure it's prepared to manage potential risks effectively. At SPS, we're here to support you at every step of the way. Whether you need us to conduct the assessments and training ourselves, or simply guide you through the process, we're here to help you achieve event ready status.

Map of the world showing regions with risk ratings for kidnapping, ransom, and extortion in 2024. Different countries are color-coded: green for low risk, light green for moderate, yellow for medium, orange for high, and red for extreme. Notable areas include Canada, Australia, and New Zealand with low risk; Russia, China, and parts of Africa with high to extreme risk.

We protect your people, your property and your brand through a meticulous five-step process

  • Two men engaged in a serious conversation in an office setting, one with glasses and dark hair, the other with light hair, wearing watches, in front of a window with natural light.

Step One - Threat Vulnerability Assessment (TVA)

This assessment identifies the specific risks and threats your organisation faces when operating in high-risk areas. We can conduct a thorough Threat Vulnerability Assessment (TVA) to understand the potential dangers and tailor your security measures and crisis management preparedness accordingly. You'll receive a comprehensive TVA report outlining the findings.

  • A woman giving a presentation in a room with an audience of three men.

Step Two - Crisis Management Organisation (CMO) Review

This review evaluates your organisation's existing crisis management structure. Are you properly prepared to activate a Crisis Management Team (CMT) and/or an in-country Incident Management Team (IMT) to effectively handle potential incidents? If necessary, we can also work with you to develop a Crisis Management Plan (CMP) and establish a CMT supported by our expertise and experience.

  • Group of diverse people having a discussion in a modern office meeting room.

Step Three - Crisis Management Plan (CMP)

Do you have a current CMP in place? This step ensures your plan addresses the specific risks and threats associated with the high-risk areas you travel to and operate in on a daily basis. If a CMP doesn't exist, we can assist you in drafting a comprehensive plan encompassing both headquarters CMT and in-country IMT protocols when operating in high-risk zones.

  • A group of people attending a presentation or lecture in a conference room, focused on a speaker standing near a projection screen.

Step Four - Crisis Management Team (CMT) Training

Equipping your CMT with the necessary skills is crucial. We provide CMT Training supported by a bespoke table-top exercises designed to test your team's capabilities and preparedness during a crisis situation. Additionally, in-country IMT training, including relevant table-top exercises, can be conducted by us if applicable.

  • Four people in a business meeting or presentation in a modern office, with one person at a whiteboard and three others seated at a table.

Step Five - SPS Initial Actions Aide Memoire

Ensure individuals designated to report incidents understand their roles and outlines recommended initial actions following an incident. This step also encourages an organization’s personnel to undergo Personal Security Awareness Training (PSAT) if they are travelling or permanently stationed in high-risk areas with a high probability of kidnap-for-ransom or extortion incident.
